Role descriptions
Industry Advisors are working professionals who guide NAUA students toward real STEM careers. You bring what no textbook can: what the work is actually like, how you got there, and what it takes. You don’t need teaching experience, just a willingness to share your path.
What you’d do:
- Mentor students one-on-one or in small groups, on your schedule
- Answer career questions and review resumes and portfolios
- Help students map a realistic path from their coursework to a first job in the field
- Optionally, speak at a seminar or teach a short session
What we ask:
- A professional background in your field (industry experience is the qualifier, not a degree or GPA)
- About 3 to 5 hours a month, flexible and on your schedule
- A commitment to our code of conduct, and completion of a background check before working with students
Academic Advisors are strong students, graduates, and academics who help NAUA students master hard coursework, choose the right classes, and navigate financial aid. If you were the person others came to for study help, this is your role.
What you’d do:
- Coach students on study strategy, time management, and exam prep
- Advise on course selection and academic planning
- Help students understand financial aid, FAFSA, and scholarships
- Optionally, tutor in a subject you know well
What we ask:
- A strong academic record (minimum 3.8 GPA; we verify before you’re activated)
- About 3 to 5 hours a month, flexible and on your schedule
- A commitment to our code of conduct, and completion of a background check before working with students
This is a bigger, ongoing role for a company, senior professional, or organization that wants to lead. A Preferred Industry Partner helps NAUA build out an entire mission domain: recruiting a small team of Industry Advisors, opening doors to internships and mentorship, and helping shape the career pathways students follow.
What you’d do:
- Help recruit and support a team of Industry Advisors in your field
- Connect students to internships, mentorship, and real-world opportunities
- Help design the career pathways students use to plan their futures
- Represent NAUA to companies and institutions in your industry
What we ask:
- Senior experience in your field, or an organization committed to the mission
- A meaningful, ongoing time commitment (this is a leadership role, not a few hours a month)
- A commitment to our code of conduct, and appropriate vetting before working with students
This is our deepest partnership. If you want to help build a domain from the ground up, start a conversation with us.
Start a ConversationThe Volunteer and Advisor Lead manages NAUA’s team of industry volunteers and advisors: recruiting them, welcoming them, keeping them supported, and matching them to the students who need them. Our mission runs on volunteers, and this role makes sure they’re well-organized, well-supported, and set up to succeed.
What you’d do:
- Coordinate the recruiting, onboarding, and scheduling of industry advisors
- Match advisors with students based on field and need
- Be the point of contact volunteers come to with questions
- Track advisor status and make sure vetting and background checks are complete before anyone works with students
- Keep advisors engaged so they stay and grow with the academy
What we ask:
- Experience managing people, volunteers, or teams
- Strong organization and interpersonal skills
- Discretion and good judgment, this role handles volunteer information and supports work with minors
- A commitment to our code of conduct, and appropriate vetting before starting
This is a leadership role, filled through a conversation rather than a quick form.
